THIRD NEW SIGHTING THIS YEAR
For the third time this year, a new bird has been spotted in St.Kitts. On Tuesday, October 22, the author spotted a Black-throated Green warbler high up in the hills at Bayfords. At that time I was uncertain what type of bird it was but fortunately managed to obtain a few photographs before it flew away.
A Black-throated Green warbler is 5 inches in size and generally has yellowish-grey cheeks surrounded by characteristic yellow band. Males, females, and immatures vary somewhat. The are non-breeding residents of the West Indies from September through May.
This capped a phenomenal day, as I had earlier seen a Hooded Warbler and a Magnolia Warbler at Bayfords & Wingfield Level respectively, both being personal first sightings for me. Observing three personal “firsts” in one day is indeed very rare!
